Vaxholm is considered the capital of the Stockholm archipelago and is perfect if you are looking for a shorter daytrip – the Cinderellabåtarna take just under an hour but will still give you the full archipelago experience. The main street running through Vaxholm city centre is lined with small shops, cosy cafes and restaurants. Walking and swimming in Vaxholm
Stroll through the idyllic city centre and the older parts of Vaxholm town which sports picturesque wooden houses. If you are keen to find out more about the town you can find a tourist information office in the town square. Vaxholm offers many swimming spots if you fancy a dip. By the Batteri Park you can find a popular outdoor swimming area with jetties, cliffs and a family friendly sandy beach.

In central Vaxholm you can find a playground, a large patch of grass perfect for football and picnic and even an adventure golf course. If you are feeling brave try the activities at Vaxholm Kastell or Vaxholm Sky Park.
Discover the historical fortress of Vaxholm Kastell
Just across the water you can find the historical fortress of Vaxholm Kastell – a must visit if you are in Vaxholm. You take a line ferry across to the island, tickets are bought on the quay. Stroll around the island, climb 130 steps to the top of the fortress’ tower, visit the museum or enjoy the beautiful archipelago views.

At Vaxholm Kastell you can book fun and adventurous activities like the escape room. They also have a café overlooking the water that serves lunch, “fika” and drinks.

Everything is bought in the café, and you can sit down either outside or inside. On board, there are also wine, beer, and non-alcoholic options.
