From Amsterdam we travel by luxury minivan to Rotterdam, the first of the 3 cities we visit. Rotterdam is the second largest city in the Netherlands and the Port of Rotterdam is famous throughout the world. The first activity of the day is an impressive cruise through the Rotterdam port area. See the city’s spectacular skyline, hypermodern architecture and shipyards from the water.
Our second destination is Delft, the birthplace of Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer. Delft is also associated with the House of Orange, whose members once lived, married and were buried here. The city has a beautiful historic town centre with many monuments. Our visit includes a tour of the De Delftse Pauw pottery factory, which carries on the tradition of hand-painted Delft pottery.
The tour concludes with a visit to The Hague. Though The Hague is not the capital of the Netherlands, it serves in this capacity. The city is the home of the Dutch royal family and seat of the Dutch government and parliament. Almost all of the foreign embassies are also located in The Hague together with important international tribunals, such as the UN International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court.
