The sculpture of Denmark's favorite saga figure, The Little Mermaid, has been the city's icon for more than a century. She sits on a stone block in the harbor and welcomes all guests to the capital of Denmark. The sculpture has become an icon for the city and is one of the most popular tourist attractions of Denmark.
The small bronze sculpture created by Edvard Eriksen was completed in 1913. It depicts a character from a well-known Danish saga, The Little Mermaid, written by world-renowned author Hans Christian Andersen, who lived in Copenhagen in the 19th century. It was Carl Jacobsen, the son of the founder of the brewery Carlsberg who ordered and financed the statue.
The statue is located close to central Copenhagen, you will find her along the Langelinie seafront, which stretches along the harbor and Langelinie Park.
