  • Read our terms & conditions for boat rental to learn more about:

    • Booking & confirmation
    • Payment terms & method
    • Changes & cancellations
    • Parties, music, alcohol, & catering

Don't hesitate to contact us if you have additional questions:

  • Can I rent an open boat?

    • Typically, we only rent out covered boats unless otherwise specified. Please note that if you've opted to rent an open boat, the tour sail proceed regardless weather conditions. Switching to a covered boat on the day of the tour (for example, due to rain) is not possible.

    • Our covered canal boats feature a plexiglass roof over the middle section and outdoor seating at the front and rear. In good weather, the windows in the covered section can be raised into the roof, opening the sides of the boat.

We will only be 20 people. Do you have a smaller boat we can rent?

    • Our canal boats are relatively large, accommodating between 133 and 150 people (76-104 during the winter, when all passengers need to sit indoors).

    • If you are a group of maximum 12 people, you can book a private tour on our small electric boat, “Hygge”. Hygge is available at specific times and always starts and ends at Ved Stranden. Read more about Hygge and book here.

Can I rent a boat at night?

    • Boat rental is available 24/7.

    • Additional fees apply:
400 DKK per hour from 21:00 to midnight
After midnight, the starting price is 8,000 DKK.

Is it possible to rent a boat all year?

    • Yes, we operate every day of the year and offer covered and heated boats to keep you comfortable in all weather conditions.
  • The boat rental includes a captain and a tour guide.

What languages does the guide speak

    • All our guides speak Danish and English. We can offer other languages (German, French, Spanish, or Italian) at an additional cost of DKK 500 per hour.

We don't want a guided tour, does that lower the price?

    • The tour guides are a legally required part of the boat's crew and will therefore always be on board. If you do not want a guided tour, the guide simply sails with you as crew/security staff. The boat rental costs the same, regardless of whether the tour is guided or not.
  • Where can we be picked up and dropped off?

    • On this map, you can see where we typically dock our boats.

    • Please note that if you wish to start and/or end your trip outside the green zone, a fee of DKK 550 per pickup or drop-off will be added.
For starting/ending outside the red zone, the fee increases to DKK 1,100 per pickup or drop-off.

We will be arriving by bus. Where is the best place to start our tour?

    • If you're arriving by bus, we recommend starting the tour from our dock at Ved Stranden, where buses can usually drop guests off right next to the departure point.

    Where can we sail?

    • As long as water levels permit, we can sail to almost any corner of Copenhagen's inner harbor. Our Classic Canal Tour, which covers Inderhavnen (Copenhagen's central harbor), passes The Little Mermaid, and sails through Christianshavn’s Canal and Frederiksholm’s Canal, takes one hour.

    • For a two hour tour, we can also explore the northern and southern parts of the harbor (Nordhavn and Sydhavnen). If you have specific route requests, feel free to mention them when booking ordiscuss them with the captain on the day of the tour. Please note, if the route is decided on the day of the tour, we cannot guarantee the guide will be able to provide commentary outside of the normal sightseeing route.

    • Canal boats are restricted to sailing within the inner harbor and are not allowed to venture into open waters. Therefore, we cannot sail beyond the Port of Copenhagen itself (e.g., past Trekroner Fort and Slusen). This means trips to and from places like Tuborg Harbor, Kastrup, or Oceankaj are not possible.

If we just need the boat for short transportation, do we still have to pay for a full hour?

    • Yes, the minimum rental cost covers one full hour of boat rental, even for shorter transportation trips.

Is it possible to rent a boat for 1.5 hours? Or is the price per commenced per full hour?

    • After the first hour (the minimum rental time), you can rent the boat in increments of 15 minutes. For example, you could book for 1 hour and 15 minutes or 1 hour and 30 minutes, etc.
  • Can Stromma arrange catering?

    • Yes, it is possible to pre-order drinks, breakfast, sandwiches, light snacks, or a full meal for the trip. See our catering options and prices in the following catering list. All that is ordered will be invoiced.

    • If you don't consume everything while sailing, you're welcome to take the rest with you.

Can you accommodate special dietary requirements?

    • Yes, our catering partners can accommodate most common allergies and dietary requirements, including vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, lactose-free, and nut or seafood allergies.

What is the deadline for placing a catering order?

    • We need to receive the catering order at least 14 days before the tour, preferably sooner, to allow time for our supplier to arrange the necessary ingredients.

We will only be 10 people. Can we order catering?

    • Unfortunately, the minimum catering order is for 25 people.

    Can we just order coffee/tea

    • Coffee and/or tea can only be ordered with sandwiches, breakfast bags, or cake.

Can we bring our own food?

    • Yes, for a flat fee of 400 DKK + VAT, you're allowed to bring your own food and/or beverage on the boat.

We have rented a restaurant boat and will bring our own food. Is tableware provided on the boat?

    • Due to the limited space on board, the restaurant boats don't come equipped with tableware such as glasses, plates, or utensils. If you're  bringing your own food, please remember to bring everything you need for serving, including plates, glasses, bottle openers, and other essentials.

    • If you pre-order catering through Stromma, appropriate single-use tableware will be provided by our catering suppliers.

Is clean-up included in the price?

    • If you order catering through Stromma, we take care of the clean-up. If you bring your own food and drinks, you're responsible for cleaning up within the renal period.
  • Is there a toilet on board?

    • There are no toilets on board the regular covered boats. However, there is a toilet on board our two restaurant boats (Klods Hans and Ole Lukøje) and on the electric boat (Den Lille Havfrue).

Are there power outlets on the boat?

    • Not all boats have power outlets. If power is required (e.g., for an amplifier), please mention this when booking the boat so we can ensure your needs are met.

Can I take my dog on the boat?

    • Yes, calm and housetrained dogs are always welcome on board.

Can we take our bike/pram on the boat?

    • Space for larger items is limited on the canal boats, but we can usually accommodate 2-3 bicycles or prams on the front deck. For safety reasons, larger objects must be placed so they don't block the aisle.

I use a wheelchair. How do I board the boat, and can I bring my wheelchair?

    • Ordinary (non-electric) wheelchairs can be accommodated to a limited extent. However, as there is no ramp between the boat and the dock, wheelchair users must be able to descend 4-5 steps to board the boat. Additional steps may be required depending on the place of departure.

    • Important: For insurance reasons, our staff cannot carry or lift guests into the boat. If assistance is needed, iwheelchair users must bring someone to help. Stromma cannot be held responsible in the event of an emergency requiring evacuation.

We want to decorate the boat before the tour. How early does the boat arrive?

    • The boat will usually be ready at the agreed departure point about 10 minutes before the tour starts. If extra time is needed for decorating and other preparations, this must be included in the rental period and will be charged at the normal hourly rate.
  • Can we listen to music on the boat?

    • Yes, you can connect a smartphone to the boat's sound system via Bluetooth. If you plan to paly music during the tour, please mention this when booking so we can ensure everything is set up beforehand.

    • Note: Due to the dense construction around the canals, music is only allowed in the harbor area and only during the daytime.

May we bring our own soundbox?

    • No, personal music systems, soundboxes, DJ set-ups, and similar equipment are not permitted on the boats.

Is it permitted to drink alcohol on board?

    • Yes, moderate alcohol consumption, such as enjoying a glass or two, is allowed. However, "party tour" focused on excessive alcohol consumption are not permitted. We reserve the right to end the tour early or deny boarding if guests are visibly intoxicated, fail to follow staff instructions, or behave in a way that endangers themselves, other guests, or our staff.

Can Stromma arrange entertainment on board?

    • Yes, we can arrange private jazz cruise with one of our regular jazz bands. If you want other entertainment or a guide, guests typically arrange this themselves, but we're happy to suggest speakers who have been used on our boats before.
  • Unfortunately, it's not possible to get the captain's phone number. However, if you need to contact us on the day of the tour, you can reach us at our main number, +45 3296 3000, during normal office hours. For urgent matters outside office hours, such as changes or cancellations, please call the emergency number provided on your order confirmation.
